Preparation Is Everything

The number one reason press-on nails fall off prematurely is skipped prep work. Nail beds produce natural oils that prevent adhesive from bonding properly. Removing these oils before application is the single most important step.

Pre-Application Checklist

1. Wash and dry hands with soap — not lotion-based hand wash.
2. Push back cuticles gently with a wooden stick. Do not cut them.
3. Lightly buff the natural nail surface with a fine-grit file (180 grit). You are not filing down the nail — just creating micro-scratches for adhesive grip.
4. Clean with alcohol — wipe each nail with rubbing alcohol or a prep pad to remove dust and oils.
5. Dry completely — wait 30 seconds after the alcohol wipe.

Choosing Your Adhesive

Nail glue (liquid) gives the strongest bond, typically 2-3 weeks. Apply a thin layer to both the natural nail and the press-on tip.

Adhesive tabs (sticky tabs) last 3-7 days and are better for temporary wear or if you want to reuse your press-ons. They also cause zero damage on removal.

Application Technique

• Start with the pinky and work inward toward the thumb. This prevents you from bumping freshly applied nails.
• Press at a 45-degree angle from cuticle to tip, holding firmly for 30 seconds.
• Avoid getting glue on your skin — it weakens the bond and looks messy.

Extending Wear

• Apply before bed so the adhesive cures overnight without water exposure.
• Wear gloves when doing dishes or cleaning.
• Avoid prolonged soaking in water (baths, pools, hot tubs).
• If a nail starts to lift, re-apply a small drop of glue under the edge.

Safe Removal

Never rip press-ons off. Soak in warm water with a few drops of cuticle oil for 10-15 minutes. Gently pry from the side using a wooden stick. Apply cuticle oil afterward to rehydrate your natural nails.
